Each coach will provide equitable playing time based on merit, ensuring every athlete has the opportunity to contribute and grow. Our staff nurtures an inclusive, positive atmosphere where players feel valued and part of the team. This synergy not only results in successful teams, but also fosters a culture where athletes can have fun, develop discipline, and build confidence both on and off the court.
Our coaches at Excel are not only passionate and driven to developing our athletes, but are dedicated to developing themselves as well rounded coaches. We play a vital role in teaching, mentoring and leading our athletes both on and off the court. In order to do this effectively, our coaches are devoted to continuing education and being certified through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
Through the Coaching Association of Canada, our coaches are certified and or working towards the many stages of the long-term athlete development (LTAD) model. This includes a progressive coaching education based on age and skill level of the type of athletes each coach has in their program. It includes learning to train, training to train, and training to compete.
The FIBA World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC) levels 1-3 represent a globally recognized coaching certification program designed to develop and standardize coaching and athlete knowledge and skills. These levels progressively build on one another, catering to coaches working with players at various stages of development:
How our Coaches Employ the Curriculum:
Excel Basketball’ coaches utilize the WABC curriculum to tailor their approach based on their team's skill level and competitive context. They apply progressive teaching techniques to build players' competencies systematically, ensuring a balance between technical, tactical, physical, and mental aspects of the game. Through structured drills, video analysis, and strategic planning, coaches will foster player development while aligning with FIBA's standards for global basketball excellence.
Players will receive an end-of-season report based on the core skills for the level of the curriculum applicable to their age group, outlining their strengths and weaknesses to help further their development.
